GIVING BACK

How we give back to our community

GIVING BACK TO SLIDELL

The Krewe of Dionysus takes great pride in being part of the Slidell, Louisiana community.  We are an active participant giving back time and resources since 1985.  Dionysus has the unique distinction of being the only Mardi Gras krewe to have paraded in 2006, “the Katrina year,” and in 2021, “the Covid year,” hosting a “drive-by” parade complete with floats, throws, marching groups and bands.  Both of these historic milestones achieved because of our undying love for our community and its residents.

Dionysus is not only a Mardi Gras parade, it is a group of devoted men with big hearts and a can-do spirit dedicated to serving the City of Slidell and its surrounding communities.  Along with Dionysus consecutively parading annually since 1986, we also support numerous non-profit organizations that in turn provide priceless services to the people of the Slidell area.  “Acta Non Verba” to some is just three Latin words.  To our krewe, the translated “Actions Not Words” has become a motto we live by, donating thousands of hours and thousands of dollars annually through volunteering, in-kind labor and supplies to numerous individuals, organizations and charities.

Below are just some of the krewe’s recurring contributions to our community and a listing of other organizations we assist year after year with volunteer hours, financial assistance, sponsorships, and more:

• Each year since 2006 the krewe has chosen a young man to be our Grand Marshal.  Usually physically or mentally challenged in some manner, these young men have faced life’s challenges head-on. Their steadfast courage in daily life and that of their families is hard for most to comprehend and is why we rally behind him and his family throughout the year covering all expenses to have him lead us on parade day as our Grand Marshal.

• Since 2005 our krewe has continually shown our gratitude to our wounded military service members.  The krewe is honored to cover all costs to sponsor these individuals and their caregivers on a handicap-equipped float dedicated to them in our parade.

• Hospice House provides a priceless service to Slidell families free of charge. They allow people to be family and not be caregivers in the last days of their loved ones’ lives.  Our krewe provides services throughout the year in maintaining their facilities as well as providing volunteers and assistance for their annual Crawfish Cookoff.
